STA #S-03 Signature examination task

Task

Examination/comparison of Questioned and Known signatures for the purpose of determining authorship.

Materials provided

St2ar - Furthering Forensic Science 18 specimen signatures* – normal signatures of a known writer.
St2ar - Furthering Forensic Science 60 questioned signatures* -(consists of one or more of the following writing types:
St2ar - Furthering Forensic Science Genuine signatures (normal signatures completed by the known writer).
St2ar - Furthering Forensic Science Disguised signatures (signatures completed by the known specimen writer in an attempt to: 1) avoid identification, or 2) to deny at a later date.
St2ar - Furthering Forensic Science Simulated signatures (an attempt by a writer to copy or imitate the handwriting habits of the known specimen writer).
St2ar - Furthering Forensic Science Spurious signatures (normal writing specimens – not by the known specimen writer).
St2ar - Furthering Forensic Science A CD or DVD containing high resolution (600 ppi) scanned images (in .pdf format) of the original specimen and questioned signatures.
St2ar - Furthering Forensic Science An “Answer Sheet” to complete and return to ST2AR, or to complete and keep for self-evaluation.
St2ar - Furthering Forensic Science A “Multiple Choice Answer Instructions Sheet”.

* Note – All signature specimens are non-originals. Participants are provided with 4” x 6” digital prints produced from high resolution (600 ppi) scanned images of the original signature specimens.

STA #I-01 Non-destructive differentiation of ballpoint pen inks

Task

Examination/comparison of handwritten pen-pair specimens for the purpose of determining if the two handwritten entries on each sample were produced using black ballpoint pen ink.

Specimens can only be examined using non-destructive techniques; the use of destructive test methods is not permitted.

Materials provided

St2ar - Furthering Forensic Science 60 original pen-pair specimens.
St2ar - Furthering Forensic Science An “Answer Sheet” to complete and return to ST2AR, or to complete and keep for self-evaluation.
St2ar - Furthering Forensic Science A “Multiple Choice Answer Instructions Sheet”.

 

STA #S-01 Signature examination task

Our initial Skill-Task Assessment (STA) package for forensic document examiners (FDEs) involved the task of signature examination/comparison. Each registered participant received a package containing the following:

St2ar - Furthering Forensic Science Set of 18 Known signatures by one writer (non-originals)*
St2ar - Furthering Forensic Science Set of 60 Questioned signatures (non-originals)*
St2ar - Furthering Forensic Science Answer Booklet
St2ar - Furthering Forensic Science Multiple-choice Answer Instructions sheet
St2ar - Furthering Forensic Science A CD containing .pdf files of each of the Q and K specimens
St2ar - Furthering Forensic Science Information/Instructions sheet

* Note - High resolution scanned images (600 ppi) of each of the original signature specimens (Q & K) were prepared and utilized to produce (commercially) 4” x 6” digital prints for use in this STA package.
